Erosion Control

the negative impact of soil compaction

Soil compaction, the prerequisite for most construction projects, is the main contributor to
excess storm water runoff. Compacted soil prohibits the ground’s natural ability to retain
and filter water efficiently. During heavy rainfall, storm water gains momentum when traveling
over compacted areas. This increase in velocity further hinders ground saturation as well as
promotes the relocation of the loose top layer of sediment.
Storm water that is allowed to filter naturally into the ground, helps
reduce the amount of contaminates that eventually wind up in stream beds
or other fragile ecosystems. Water runoff from jobsites is especially
susceptible to distributing contaminants.
Compost is becoming increasingly popular in counteracting the negative impact of soil compaction.
